What Do We Want…When Do We Want It?

Before home games I normally drop my Grandparents off at Cashconverters, which provides me with just enough money to get a seat behind the goal. It’s quite a cosy shop, or so my Grandparents tell me when I pick them up on payday. On the way to the ground it gives me a great thrill when Mark Griffiths (International Goalkeeper, etc ,etc , etc) waves … Continue reading What Do We Want…When Do We Want It?

The Racecourse Cull Won’t Be What You Expect

So who should stay and who should go? Most fans, when asked for their opinion, go down the apocalyptic route and demand a massive cull. There certainly will be a lot of comings and goings, but Kevin Wilkin is unlikely to take the nuclear option and completely obliterate his squad. Why? Well, look at our recent history for your answer. Brian Little was in charge … Continue reading The Racecourse Cull Won’t Be What You Expect

A Statistical Review of Wrexham FC’s Season

The headline fact about this season, of course, is that we came 17th in the fifth tier, therefore suffering the lowest league position in the club’s history. As you might imagine, that means that a lot of our figures this season are the worst since the campaign which saw us relegated to the Conference six years ago. We conceded more goals and lost more games … Continue reading A Statistical Review of Wrexham FC’s Season

I had a dream

Well the season has just ended and we’re feeling a mixture of sadness at failing in the playoffs again and contentment that we had a financially successful season. Andy Morrell can be pretty pleased with the season, but probably it’s a bit early for him to acknowledge this yet after the tragically unfortunate defeat to Cambridge in the  playoff semis. The season’s first pivotal moment … Continue reading I had a dream

Forest Green Rovers 1 Wrexham 1

This wasn’t half bad: pity it doesn’t really mean much. Obviously that’s partly because we had nothing to play for, and also because the assumption is that come August our team will look very different from this. So conclusions drawn from a match against a side hit by injury should be tentative, especially as our key moments of incisiveness came when an on-loan teenager provided … Continue reading Forest Green Rovers 1 Wrexham 1

Looking back……but just the once- A look back at the 2013/2014 season

As strange as it seems, we won’t see any football from our beloved dragons at the Racecourse for another two months, but before we say goodbye why not pop into our little time machines and relive the 2013/2014 season….I know I don’t really want to either! This time last year we were gearing up for the play-offs as we beat Kidderminster Harriers to reach the … Continue reading Looking back……but just the once- A look back at the 2013/2014 season

Andy Morrell wins the Steve Edwards Goal of the Season Trophy

Andy Morrell is the winner of the 2012-13 Steve Edwards Goal of the Season Trophy. His terrific volley against Forest Green Rovers was the overwhelming winner in our online poll with 45%. In second place was the long range strike against Aldershot by last season’s winner, Jay Harris, with 30%, while Dean Keates came third with his free kick at Barnet. When Kevin Went Shopping

There was a buzz before the Nuneaton game: this was our chance to see what Kevin Wilkin’s Wrexham side would look like next season! Surely, the logic ran, he’d hightail it straight back to his old club and cherry-pick all their best players. After watching the weak performance the visitors put in there was an a slight air of disappointment: was that what we could … Continue reading When Kevin Went Shopping

Nobody Mention This Season

Here’s my column from last week’s Leader. It forms part of the paper’s comprehensive pre-match coverage every Friday, featuring interviews, an in-depth look at the opposition and lots of statistical analysis. All content in the column (c) http://www.leaderlive.co.uk. Look on the bright side. It’ll all be over tomorrow and we can pretend it never happened. This season has been a huge disappointment from start to … Continue reading Nobody Mention This Season

Will you vote for the squirrel from the Wirral?

We’ve had several calls to vote for the ‘Player of the Season’ recently.  I’d say it isn’t a footballer who can claim to be the biggest  ‘player’ in Wrexham’s ongoing success as a community based football club. If these votes were broadened to cover  all contributors to the cause, who would get your vote? Here’s a few you need to consider. The Wrexhamfan website gets … Continue reading Will you vote for the squirrel from the Wirral?
