Last season’s home game with Aldershot saw us return to normality as we got back to winning ways. That’s the usual pattern in these games – we’ve won 17 out of 21 home games against The Shots – but we’d suffered a little blip.
Three seasons ago we lost at home to Aldershot for the first time, a 2-0 loss which was followed by a 2-2 draw in February 2018. So it was a relief last season when second half goals by Stuart Beavon and Jordan Maguire-Drew got us back to winning ways!
We’ve achieved our best result against Aldershot – 4-0 – three times, and on each occasion a hat trick was scored. In October 1964 Martyn King, who sadly passed away this week, hit three, but a week later we lost 5-0 at Aldershot! The following season Sammy McMillan kept the match ball, and in March 1975 it was Dave Smallman’s turn.

And, of course, there can be no better omen than the fact that tomorrow’s game will be played on the 28th anniversary of what many consider to be the greatest victory in Wrexham’s history: the 2-1 FA Cup win over Arsenal.
