Things are looking up for Wrexham at Dagenham. We started horribly at Victoria Road, losing our first two matches there 3-0. In fact we went 450 minutes against The Daggers before finally scoring past them, in injury time at the end of our fifth match against them.
Even then, that was an own goal, but significantly it earned us a 1-0 win, which was obviously our first win in this fixture.
For the first goal scored past Dagenham by a Wrexham player, we had to wait another 23 minutes, before Paul Rutherford put us ahead at The Racecourse in April 2018, although we went on to lose 2-1, with David Raven scoring a decisive own goal.
Having said that, the first goal between these sides, back in December 2007, was scored by a Wrexham player as Steve Evans put the ball into his own net.
Confused yet? Well last season we won at Dagenham, coming from behind thanks to a brilliant Luke Young strike which won our goal of the season trophy, and a second half penalty by Luke Summerfield. And how did Dagenham take the lead? An own goal by Brad Walker, of course!
More than a quarter of the goals scored between these two sides were own goals, and half these games have seen a player put the ball past his own keeper!
Luke Summerfield plays his fiftieth league game for Wrexham tomorrow.
