PREVIEW | Wrexham AFC v Barnet

We’ve enjoyed the upper hand over Barnet in recent years. Indeed, we come into today’s match on the best running streak we’ve managed against The Bees.

We did the double over them last season, repeating our achievement from 2014-15, when we managed to put one over the eventual champions twice. We’ve never strung together four consecutive wins over Barnet before.

Robbie Evans scored spectacularly in both those 1-0 wins, meaning over a quarter of his goals for Wrexham came against the Bees! He’s not far off the top of the list of our scorers in this fixture. Gary Bennett is two goals ahead, while Mark Jones is on three.

Last season, a goal by Stuart Beavon was enough to secure all three points at The Racecourse, and our late-season win at The Hive was secured by that bizarre Jermaine McGlashan goal, which was going wide but span back into the net, after Akil Wright had opened the scoring.

There’s a good chance we could set a new mark for the biggest attendance to watch these teams play. Last season we attracted 4,727 to The Racecourse, but four of our last five home games have attracted over five thousand home fans. The only exception was the last league game of the previous season, when the crowd was deflated because both Harrogate Town and we were already qualified for the play-offs and therefore fielded half-strength sides.

There’ll be full live commentary, as always, on Wrexham’s Mixlr channel, and watch out on the club’s YouTube channel for the return of #WxmTrek, my away match travel videos! Don’t worry – when I’m a billionaire YouTuber, I’ll still think to you from my golden palace in Barbados!
