And they make a fuss about Wayne Rooney’s debut for Man United…..

Three assists and a goal was a pretty dramatic start for Kevin Thornton, and Johnny Hunt was just one assist behind matching that. Looks like the midfield functioned pretty well then!

Sutton put up a good fight until the first goal, but Andy Morrell’s side has developed an impressive level of match hardness, and was able to take the game away from their Conference South opponents once they’d taken the initiative.

It’ll be interesting to see how Thornton develops. Throughout his career he seems to have impressed with his ability but struggled to maintain his fitness. Since he’s been with us he’s been on the treatment table more often than on the pitch: we need him to turn that around if we’re to make the most of him, because we’re hardly in a position where we can take a gamble on a player’s availability.

Wrexham: Mayebi, Alfei, Riley, Westwood, Ashton (Walker 56); Clarke, Keates (Little 61), Thornton; Rushton (Cieslewicz 61), Ogleby, Hunt

Miscellaneous: Wrexham go into the quarter finals of the FA Trophy for the 1st time; Andy Morrell’s 75th game as Wrexham manager; Thornton’s debut.
